by Janie Van Komen (Author)
Most heroes do their best work in the quiet place nobody ever sees, except that one person who needs to be saved. And Maybe that one person who needs saving is the hero himself. Taking his friend's military lottery number in 1880 Netherlands with no rumors of any wars or conflicts was to Willem Albert Van Komen a gesture of friendship and opportunity for a short paid escape from the humdrum of everyday farm life. Seemingly insignificant decisions very often change everything. Little did Willem Albert suspect that this one single choice would spirit him across the ocean to a foreign culture and people who would test his values, his strength, and his very life. What kind of hero can come from the ashes of despair? Willem Albert has to decide.
