Product Description

by Nettie Reeves-Lewis (Author)

Nettie Reeves-Lewis knows what it feels like to have food as a best friend. As a popular aerobics instructor, while teaching others how to love themselves from the inside out, she was struggling with her own inner demons. In "Through Thick and Thin and Thick Again," Reeves-Lewis gives her true account of growing up in a segregated country-town with middle-child syndrome and a broken home. She takes the reader with her on her journey of feeling hopeless and helpless as a black child, teenager and woman dealing with binge eating disorder - turning to food during times of anxiety and stress. She places you in the middle of her struggle - the rise and fall of being thin, and the pressure that it brings. Thought provoking questions are asked at the end of chapters in hopes of starting that single-person conversation with the most important question being, "Do I have an eating disorder?" The author gives poignant accounts of how she fought her way through the guilt, shame and embarrassment (the tornado) to reach the other side. This real account of being black with BED is about all blacks (and anyone else) who allow food to dictate their lives. Upon completion, the reader will come to understand that its not what you're eating, it's whats eating you. As well, you will be on your way to accepting the fact that it's not your fault - the first step in the succeeding regards for self-acceptance, self-awareness and self-love.
