UPDATED ILLUSTRATED VERSION OF THE BATTLES AND MEN OF THE 3RD LOUISIANA INFANTRY. There have been several books on the 3rd Louisiana Infantry, but what sets this one apart is the additional information and illustrations which have been added. This is not just a reprint, but a major remake of the original William F Tunnard work. See the faces of many of the men of the 3rd and read about who they where. 19th century battlefield illustrations complete the well written story. The 3rd Infantry Regiment was assembled during the spring of 1861 with men from Caddo, Caldwell, DeSoto, Iberville Morehouse, Natchitoches, Rapides, and Winn parishes. The unit fought at Wilson's Creek and Elkhorn Tavern, Missouri, then moved to Mississippi where it was active in the conflicts at Luka and Corinth. Later it was assigned to L. Hebert's Brigade in the Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana and was captured in the fight at Vicksburg. After being exchanged, the regiment served in A. Thomas' Brigade, Trans-Mississippi Department. The field officers were Colonels Frank C. Armstrong, Jerome B. Gilmore, Louis Hebert, and Samuel D. Russell; Lieutenant Colonels O.P. Amacker, Samuel M. Hyams, and David Pierson; and Majors John S. Richards and William F. Tunnard. This book contains portraits and biographies of many of the soldiers, as well as an illustrated version of portions of William Tunnard's 1866 edition.
