Jack takes the sample back to Barrister for study given the state of the art research equipment they have there.They discover the organism binds to zinc beryllium silicate to form a new, bio-elemental compound ZnMBe which feeds on hemoglobin. Further study using live animal specimens finds the material not only kills its host at the cellular level, it causes a cell mutation that seeks out new sources of blood and host reanimation, causing a "zombie effect." Before they fully realize what's happening, the animals begin infecting humans. And the carnage begins. Now Jack must race against time to find a cure before it's too late and the compound escapes containment.
