Despite the difficulties of investigating the murder Brandon finds love along the way for both himself and his widowed mother. In a twist of fate Brandon's uncle's old partner in the mine, Peter Meineke, turns out to be true love for his mother. However, fate is cruel and when Brandon eventually finds the killer in the sights of his rifle, it is Peter he must gun down.
