Product Description

by Matthew Arnold (Author), Josiah Hamilton Castleman (Editor)

Matthew Arnold's Sohrab and Rustum is a narrative poem that tells the story of two legendary warriors, Sohrab and Rustum, who are destined to meet in battle. Sohrab is the son of Rustum, but they have never met as Sohrab was raised by his mother in a distant land. Sohrab becomes a great warrior and eventually learns of his true identity. He sets out to find his father and challenge him to a duel. The two warriors meet and engage in a fierce battle, but Sohrab is ultimately killed by Rustum. The poem explores themes of identity, fate, and the tragic consequences of war. Matthew Arnold's poetic style is characterized by its use of classical allusions and vivid imagery. This edition of the poem was published in 1905 and includes an introduction by the author. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
