Everyone thinks Captain Alex Coleman is a One Shot Wonder.
Alex trashed his old submarine in an unwinnable battle. Now, the U.S. Navy is crazy-or desperate-enough to send him to USS Bluefish. Unfortunately, while Bluefish looks like a plum command on the surface, the attack submarine is the saddest boat in the fleet, with a demoralized crew whose spirits were broken by their previous captain. It's Alex's job to put them back together, because they're going back into the fight one way or another...and Alex likes living, thank you very much.
Even worse, Alex is the hero of the hour. Battling to save Convoy 57 earned him the Congressional Medal of Honor and stardom, and the only thing worse than reporters dogging his steps is how the navy keeps setting him up for interviews! Fame is no fun for an introvert who just wants to keep his head down, fight his submarine, and do his job. Yet that job is getting harder. Enemy submarines continue to rule the waves, and French Captain Jules Rochambeau, Alex's old foe from the war's earliest days, is on a rip, sinking Alliance ships and submarines left and right. No one can stop him, which is, of course, why Alex Coleman gets the call. Can Alex face off with the best submariner in the world and live? Will his broken crew knit together in time, or will Bluefish's past doom them all? Fortune Favors the Bold follows Alex Coleman and many others through World War III in War of the Submarine.
