Throughout an individual's existence, BEN SHEN 本神 organize the functioning of body and mind, according to the possibilities presented by heredity.-Man at the level of Man (Middle Level) links subtle universal influences (Heaven) with 'substantial forms' (Earth) by means of the five emotions, which express and regulate the individual. -Man at the level of Earth (Lower Level) is expressed by means of the five ZANG 臟 Heart, Liver, Spleen, Lung and Kidney, which produce body tissues and the five emotions, with the help of QI 氣, Blood, the five flavors and body liquids Imbalance in BEN SHEN 本神, especially when it occurs during fetal development and birth, generates long-lasting harmful emotions and causes disease.
