Product Description

by Annette Wertman (Author)

Students can use this step-by-step, chair yoga picture book to guide their yoga practice at home or when travelling. Teachers can use this handbook as a 'toolbox' when planning their chair yoga classes. Seated and standing poses are illustrated with a picture first. Then, how to do each pose is described in an easy sequence of movements. Using 'a chair for yoga' allows the many health benefits (of a regular yoga practice) to be accessible to almost anyone. These health benefits can include; improved circulation and balance, increased strength and flexibility and enhanced mental clarity, concentration and mood.

Author Biography

Attracted to the helping professions, Annette was thinking to go into nursing, but, the mandatory cow eyeball dissection in Grade 9 science bumped her right off that path! So, what did she do - joined her passion for music with her love of people and became a piano teacher and music therapist. As a registered music therapist since 1978, Annette has worked in many different facilities building relationships with people (of all ages and abilities) through music. She still teaches piano in her Broadway studio and enjoys playing the beautiful white, grand piano in the lobby of the new Leo Wertman Residence in Vancouver, BC. In 2007 Annette began to study yoga. By December 2009 she was certified to teach yoga. In December 2010 Annette received an MA in Gerontology from Simon Fraser University. Her thesis was an exploratory study of yoga and the older adult. These past few years Annette has specialized in Chair Yoga. "Using a chair allows the health benefits of yoga to be accessible to almost everyone". Annette teaches chair yoga at community centres and neighbourhood houses throughout Vancouver. She also gives workshops for non-profit organizations and presents chair yoga workshops at conferences and conventions. Annette also teaches a Chair Yoga Teacher Training Course for Semperviva Yoga School.
