This primer is intended to be a technical introduction to GEL, the Generic Execution Language included in Clarity Program and Project Management, a product of Broadcom, Inc. As such, the individual subjects will begin with an example, followed by additional notes about the example, a section on best practices, and common errors people make related to the example. Some best practices are repeated more than once when they are relevant to more than one topic. The same applies to the enumeration of common errors.Taken altogether, the materials here can become the basis of a programmer's GEL toolbox to help speed the creation, enhance consistency, and improve reliability of onsite code.Considerable effort has been made to make the examples as error free as possible. However, there may be one or two "bugs" in the code or areas where the code mentions attributes and attribute values that may not jive with objects at a given site. It is due, in part, to the highly adaptable nature of the Clarity PPM product itself. We apologize for any inconvenience these "undocumented features" may cause.
