Product Description

by Mike S. Stultz (Author)

Wings of Ice is a true life story of a young man growing up in a farming community in southwestern Washington. After incurring two devastating broken backs prior to the age of twenty, he and his new wife moved to Alaska where he graduated from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks and embarked on a life full of adventure as a teacher, Alaska State Trooper, Protection Officer for the Department of Fish and Game, homesteader, bush pilot and guide for fishermen and hunters. It is a tale of survival and perseverance against the forces of nature in Alaska, and his battles with the bureaucrats within Fish and Game, Bureau of Land Management, Federal Aviation Agency and the United States Park Service. Wings of Ice also details his fight for survival after being mauled by a grizzly bear, struggling to remain alive after falling through the ice of a river in the middle of winter at minus forty-five degrees as well as losing power to his aircraft engine over a forest fire. The story is told with frankness, insight and humor that will provide the reader with many hours of enjoyment.
