In its span of six years in the 1990s, the author, a real cowboy, rode alone on horseback, traveling through the rugged and treacherous terrain. The author states "Keep in mind this work was often done on the back of a horse, leaning on the side of a horse, on a rock, in my tent during a storm, sitting under a pine tree, or in a meadow or by the side of a creek - often in a rush, and without the help of a dictionary."
