Author Biography
Author comes from 1940's central California farmworker background, low-rided L.A. streets in early 60's, entered Army at age 18, joined emerging Chicano Movement in 1967, organized Chicano groups in southern & northern California, both community as well as college chapters, including the Brown Berets of San Francisco. Co-Chairman of Third World Liberation Front at Berkeley in 1969, the second longest student strike in US history resulting in establishment of ethnic studies nationally. Convicted of political activities resulting in multiple jail terms. Professor at various colleges and universities throughout California, established alternative farmworker college in Fresno before becoming a lawyer for campesinos. Moved to Hawaii in 1990 where his family runs a tortilla business.
