Upright and Three Rivers was compiled for two audiences, both adult Christian book clubs and Christian School/Homeschool students. It includes two appendices, the first of which provides facilitating, devotional study questions for book clubs or personal reflection for the 34 chapters of the book, and the second of which provides comprehensive supplementary lesson plans for each of the 34 chapters. The content is very serious subject matter about an ancient pandemic, loving relationships, Christian persecution, suffering, and death. It also focuses heavily on the suffering of Roman soldiers and the social evil of that time period of class divisions. It includes Biblical references and is influenced by the author's life experience of having lived over eleven years in Britain. A tragedy filled with hope and redemption, it raises questions and inspires research.
