Product Description

by Nadia Mike (Author), Amiel Sandland (Illustrator)

Ukaliq and Kalla are two friends who could not be more different.

Ukaliq is loud, excited, and always looking for adventure. Kalla on the other hand, is calm, quiet, and knows it's best to be well prepared before travelling out on the land or sea ice.

When the two friends head out for a day of fishing, Ukaliq can barely wait to get his line in the water?but his eagerness to catch a fish may just leave him empty handed in the end.

There is a lot Kalla could teach Ukaliq about a successful fishing trip, if only Ukaliq would sit still long enough to listen!

Author Biography

Nadia Mike is an Inuit educator, who recently graduated with a Bachelor of Education from the University of Regina. Although Nadia has lived in many communities across the North, she considers Iqaluit, Nunavut, her home. Nadia has two daughters, Leah and Jaime, who constantly teach her to be less serious and enjoy every day. These two girls have also reminded Nadia of the importance of children's literature, and having stories with settings, characters, and themes that show children that their lives and cultures are important enough to be in books. Nadia loves to travel, cook, sew, and drink strong coffee. In 2014, Nadia published her first book, an Inuktitut-language first-words board book. In 2016, she published Leah's Mustache Party, her first picture book, followed by Ukaliq and Kalla Go Fishing in 2017.Amanda Sandland is an illustrator living in the Toronto area. She studied illustration at Seneca College, eventually specializing in comic arts and character design. When not drawing, she can be found studying, designing characters, creating costumes and replica props, or burying her nose in a comic.
