Product Description

by Semisi Pone (Author)

A commentary on the 39 Tu'i Tonga, from the year 500AD - 1865 when the 39th and last Tu'i Tonga died. Tonga is an ancient society, in the South West Pacific Islands, with evidence of the islands being occupied continuously for 3,000 years but it was not until the year 500AD that the first Tu'i Tonga or king appeared in oral and recorded history. Scholars have proposed various alternatives to the accepted 950AD as the year of the first Tu'i Tonga. I tend to support some theories, including Thor Heyerdahl's, that migration from South America may have been the 'kingmakers' at around 500 AD. In my other books, in the series 'in search of Tangaroa'...these theories are further elaborated. Comments on each Tu'i Tonga from the first to the last one throws some light on history as well as related opinons added by the author to improve the interest and value of this book.
