Product Description

by Bruce L. Douglass (Author)

A bizarre kidnapping, a mysterious disappearance, crimes of passion and intoxication, accidents, poisoning, thefts, murders, a gunfight, and more. This book contains events of long forgotten tragic stories of Standish, Maine. These stories are a reminder that Standish wasn't just a quiet, bucolic farming and lumbering town.

The mission of the Standish Historical Society is to preserve and present the history of Standish, Maine that has been entrusted to us by the town of Standish and the present and former members of the Standish community. We hold thousands of photos of Standish and her people as well as tens of thousands of pieces of paper. Our active volunteers staff the Old Red Church Museum in Standish. The Old Red Church was built in 1805 as the first Parish Church of Standish, housed Standish Academy from 1847 to 1857 on its second floor and Standish High School from 1893 to 1916. It has changed little since those days and very much worth a visit.
All the money raised from the sales of this book goes to the Standish Historical Society to maintain our historical collection and museum as well as for our building fund.
