After an overview, Friedenberg applies his analysis, which is followed by the application of militant decency rhetoric to foreign policy, responsible citizenship, and progressive reform. A series of Roosevelt's collected speeches forms the second part of the volume and provides concrete examples of Roosevelt's rhetorical style. A speech chronology and a bibliography close the work. ROBERT V. FRIEDENBERG is Professor of Communication at Miami University, Ohio. He is the coauthor of Political Campaign Communication: Principles and Practices (Praeger, 1983) and edited Rhetorical Studies of National Political Debates: 1960-1988 (Praeger, 1990). In 1989 he received the Outstanding Book of the Year Award from the Religious Speech Communication Association for Hear O Israel The History of American Jewish Preaching, 1654-1970.
