Ruth She was a little princess, flaunting her curls and bows Her mother always had her in pretty little clothes She had the boys all wrapped 'round her toes Maybe somewhat spoilt, Heaven only knows From "Tulsie" Town, life was rich I suppose But Mom and Pop thought it besta goes They loaded up, said goodbye to their woes Their hopes, their dreams in the Colorados They never made it, as the story goes But found their purpose in helping those The ones in need whether friends or foes And gave new life to the Pueblos The ranches they worked, where the rooster crows Brought blisters and aches from their heads to their toes They toiled in the soil, as the mighty wind blows With dust in their throats and some in their nose The plains were hard, where little grows The winters were harsh and they nearly froze Life was taught, by the seeds that were sowed Growing through hardships and struggles I'm told But with Ruth firmly planted, and weeds pruned with hoes Mom and Pop led, down the straight and narrow rows With a sprinkling of nurturing love, all in one large dose Caused the flower to face the sun, and blossom as a rose R.W.P.--2011
