Product Description

by Mary E. Webster (Author)

The Federalist Papers were written to explain the new US Constitution to the people of New York state in 1787-1788. This book makes it easy to read how the Founding Fathers interpreted each clause in the Constitution. This copy of the Constitution is annotated with The Federalist Papers: Modern English Edition Two. Mary E Webster has been studying The Federalist Papers for 30 years and adds a few of her reflections to the discussion.

The Federalist Papers: Modern English Edition Two is a translation of The Federalist Papers. It is an easier-to-read, 10th-grade reading-level modern language edition of all 85 Federalist Papers.

Learn:
  • what the Federalist Papers are,
  • why the Articles of Confederation needed to be replaced,
  • the history of republics,
  • the power and responsibilities of the federal and state governments,
  • how the Constitution blocks abuse of power,
  • why it is safer to have a united country,
  • why neighboring countries often go to war,
  • the federal government's limited powers,
  • how to reduce the violence of faction,
  • the importance of a republic, federal system, and Separation of Powers,
  • Legislative, Executive, and Judicial Powers
  • what is the system of Checks and Balances,
  • how tyranny takes root, grows, and blocks liberty,
  • why a Bill of Rights can be dangerous, and
  • how to defend the Constitution.

Mary E. Webster is a professional translator who got her AAS degree from St. Paul College. She's worked as a translator both in the community and at the University of Iowa. The imperative for all translation assignments is to convey the exact message. This was the skill she brought to translating The Federalist Papers, which took nearly four years of work.

Author Biography

Mary E Webster started reading The Federalist Papers in 1994, "translating" them into easier-to-read English so that she could understand them. Her first translation, The Federalist Papers: In Modern Language, was published in 1999. In 2008, she published a 10th-grade reading-level edition, The Federalist Papers: Modern English Edition Two. That same year she also published a book of summaries of all 85 Papers.
