Product Description

by Rosemary Jeboo (Author)

Amid the beautiful Exmoor National Park or Lunar Land, a herd of red deer or Moon Clan is led by Papa Sul a magical deer. He needs to pass on his magic to his grandson Rai before he dies. He uses a formula written down and stored in a secret cave with the ingredients. Moon Clan has lived on Exmoor for centuries. The book also uses the ancient dialect of the West Country. The book delves into the astounding landscape of Exmoor with its hills, streams, trees, birds and animals that live there. Rai and his girlfriend Renee play a game called Moon Flitting. There are also rock rainbows. There are two types of people living on Lunar Land. The stags are pursued by Herriers or hunters for their antlers especially Frank Lucifer. There are also journalists who are keen to get photographs of the stags. The other type of people are the Verds. They believe that one should live in harmony with the animals and trees. There are two main Verds in the story - Farmer Patch and Maiko an elf. Papa Sul's grandpa Papa Moon had passed down his magic, so it is passed from grandfather to grandson. The magic is on Papa Sul's seventh point of his seventeen points on his antlers. He must pass the magic on to the third point of Rai's antlers. The deer have forged a successful relationship with the eagle Hauster and its ancestors and the owl Zephner and its ancestors. Moon Clan's magic is threatened by a wayward deer Ergon who is Rai's cousin. He thinks he has an equal right to inherit the magic. He is supported by Venin the snake who does not like the Moon Clan. Ergon is Papa Sul's brother Papa Jess' grandson. This puts Papa Sul in a difficult position as he does not want to fight his own blood and Venin is using this to bring down Moon Clan. Rai journeys to meet the other inhabitants of Moon Clan including the pony Hari and the tree boy Maiko. He finds out a lot about his mother from them. The various animal and bird characters help the transfer to take place on the Culbone cliff overlooking the Bristol Channel or Fegan where Papa Sul frequents to read the signs that the moon is sending to him. After the magic is transferred, Rai has to find the third oak tree to satisfy the prophesy.
