As the youngest person ever to receive the achievement award given by the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, George was honored as a modern-day individual whose own initiative and effort have led to significant career success. George has had numerous business ventures including auto dealerships, a chain of business colleges, real estate and insurance firms, a publishing company, a media organization, and was the owner of the NBA's Charlotte/New Orleans Hornets. His entrepreneurial efforts are sustained by his deep Christian faith and commitment to helping others achieve their dreams. George has three grown children and he resides with his wife Denise in Nashville, Tennessee, where they support communities and individuals through their George Shinn Foundation.
