Product Description

by Huey Perry (Author)

Huey Perry, from Gilbert Creek Road, Mingo County, WV is the author of two distinguished books, They'll Cut Off Your Project and Blaze Starr, both published by Praeger Publishing in New York. They'll Cut Off Your Project was selected by Saturday Review as one of the top ten books in 1972 and was republished by West Virginia University Press in 2011. Blaze Starr was republished by Holt, Rinehart, and Winston in 1989 and was the basis for the movie Blaze starring Paul Newman and Lolita Davidovich.

The Legacy of Gilbert Creek Road is Perry's first foray into nonfiction short stories and poetry. The stories take one back to a time and place which is unknown to most. The readers will be introduced to the lore of its people and perhaps will have an enhanced understanding of inhabitants from this Appalachian region. Although they lived in an environment of corruption which smoldered like a gob pile of coal waste, and where democracy was forbidden fruit, their resilience and buoyancy are to be admired. They should not be described using hackneyed stereotypical language that berates their image.

The many stories in The Legacy of Gilbert Creek Road will give one a vivid feel of life during the time from 1912 to 1970. It tells the story of a robbery, a struggle to survive, a spy mystery, an abuse of authority, power versus the powerless and a revelation of how John F. Kennedy bought the 1960 primary election of West Virginia, as told in the narrative Pursuing The Disrupters.
