Patricia Barnes-Svarney has been a science writer for more than 20 years, has a master's degree in geography/geomorphology, and has worked professionally as an oceanographer. She is the author or coauthor of more than 30 books, including the award-winning "New York Public Library Science Desk Reference." Thomas E. Svarney is a scientist, a naturalist, and an artist. They are the coauthors of "The Handy Geology Answer Book," "The""Handy Math Answer Book," and "The Handy Ocean Answer""Book." He is the author of "Skies of Fury: Weather Weirdness around the World" and" The Oryx Guide to Natural History." They live in Endicott, New York.
