The sequence of events leading up to this CBS News TV announcement began when the President's motorcade drove into the Dealey Plaza. That is when Special Agent Winston Lawson in the lead car radioed the White House Communications Network that the motorcade was five minutes out from the Trade Mart where the President was scheduled to give a speech during a luncheon. As that message went out, the President's limousine turned and drove down Elm Street.
