The VHPA stories reflect a time when EVERY helicopter pilot faced extremely demanding tasks and had little or no history to guide him. The "Helicopter War", and the myriad uses of the machine during same is a "book" written by those who performed the type of feats described herein. The thirty narratives, written by twenty-eight authors, contain humor, frustration, fear, excitement, and of course, sorrow. We hope this treatment will enhance the legacy and preserve the history of the young men who went to Southeast Asia to fly helicopters. It is dedicated to the senior citizens who were those young men and especially to the young men frozen in time.
