Product Description

by Linda A. Gould (Author)

A BOOK IN ENGLISH AND JAPANESE

The Diamond Tree is a modern fairytale. Through no fault of her own, Anai finds herself trapped on a mountain. She waits for years to be rescued, maybe by a handsome prince. One day, though, she is faced with a choice that tests her courage and independence.

The Diamond Tree is a dual-language story in English and Japanese. While reading is recognised as an effective way to learn a second language, and improve vocabulary and grammar, reading fiction often proves difficult. Literature can be too difficult in its original form, and graded readers are sometimes too simplified. This dual-language book allows readers to challenge themselves with the original text of the story, and check the interpretation when they run into difficulties.

Suitable for young adults and adults, the book includes discussion topics, as well as vocabulary and translation practice for students of Japanese or English.

Author Biography

Linda Gould has studied French, Spanish, German and Japanese. During these studies, she found the subjects covered in many textbooks to be unrealistic, formal and repetitive. Fiction was more interesting, but often too difficult, and she found herself spending so much time in the dictionary that she lost the thread of the story. Dual-language books were the handiest tools for not only understanding plot and improving vocabulary, but also for comprehending the nuance of words and phrases used in the second language.
