Product Description

by Debra Venable-Ball (Author)

The Chinese Crested dog is rapidly becoming one of the most popular breeds in the world. It is praised for its beauty and gracefulness, often being compared to a lovely Thoroughbred racehorse. It also wins prizes as the ugliest dog in the world. What is the truth surrounding this remarkable breed? Where and when did the first hairless dog appear in the historical literature? What role does genetics play in tracing the breed's probable origins? Were Chinese Crested dogs ever haute cuisine? The Bare Facts: The Chinese Crested Dog Uncovered looks at the breed from both an historical and scientific basis. An in depth examination of the breed explores such topic as early breed history, skin and dentition issues, understanding the breed standard, what genetics reveals about the true origin of the Chinese Crested dog, and grooming for both show and pet homes. Other pertinent topics covered include chapters on the canine digestion system and an exploration of dietary choices for the breed, management of the brood bitch and stud dog, whelping a Chinese Crested litter, understanding of personality development, and alternative health care, including a section on the vaccination controversy. This volume is a valuable resource, which the Chinese Crested dog owner will return to again and again. It is, also, a book that every dog owner will find an asset to his or her canine library.
