From the preface: The compiling of a Hymnal, which will interpret God to the people and the response of the human soul back to God is a momentous and sacred task, and in attempting to bring to our churches a book that will meet the needs of all, we have put into this effort our very souls and blood as it were, not one time forgetting that we cannot take one step without the Guiding Hand of our Father in Heaven. Singing is worship and brings happiness, joy and peace to the individual, both heightening his intellectuality and spirituality. It is to the end, therefore, that the people may be edified and God glorified, that The Baptist Standard Hymnal is compiled.
