Product Description

by Norm Conley (Author)

In The Art of Investment Misery, veteran investor Norm Conley exposes the common-and often counterintuitive-pitfalls that sabotage even the smartest, most well-intentioned investors. Drawing upon decades of experience as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer at JAG Capital Management, Norm blends humor, keen insight, and sharp analysis to illuminate the habits and biases that lead investors astray.

Rather than preaching the promise of easy riches, this book candidly outlines how investors frequently fall victim to short-sighted strategies, emotional decision-making, and flawed assumptions. With clarity and wit, Norm reveals how conventional wisdom and popular investment tactics can paradoxically lead to mediocre or even disastrous results. Filled with practical wisdom, relatable anecdotes, and actionable insights, The Art of Investment Misery serves as both a cautionary tale and a refreshing guide. By identifying the most effective ways readers can sabotage their investment outcomes, Norm empowers them to recognize and avoid these errors on their own financial journeys. Whether you're a seasoned professional or just beginning your investment path, this book provides a compelling roadmap to understanding and overcoming the most common pitfalls that stand between investors and long-term success.Norm Conley is the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer of JAG Capital Management, where he has led strategic initiatives and managed the firm's equity and fixed-income strategies since 1999. With a career in investment management spanning over three decades, Norm brings insightful expertise shaped by his experiences as both a naval officer and a professional at a leading global investment firm.Norm was raised in Lancaster, Ohio, as the son of small business owners. An alumnus of the University of Notre Dame, he earned his bachelor's degree through a Naval ROTC scholarship. After spending three years as a naval officer, he began his investment career in 1994 at Merrill Lynch in St. Louis and earned his MBA in Finance at Washington University's Olin School of Business in St. Louis. Known for his commitment to community and leadership, he has served on the boards of Good Shepherd Children & Family Services and Chaminade College Preparatory School and held the role of Chairman for the St. Louis Chapter of the Young Presidents' Organization (YPO).Outside of his professional endeavors, Norm is an avid reader with a deep passion for lifelong learning. He treasures time spent with family and enjoys traveling, golfing, and duck hunting. Norm lives in St. Louis, Missouri. He and his wife Chris have three grown children and one grandson.
