Author Biography

Andrew Lang was born on March 31, 1844 in Selkirk, Scotland, the eldest of eight children. He attended Selkirk Grammar School and eventually Balliol College at Oxford. Lang was a noted historian, critic, poet, journalist and one of the most prolific and versatile authors of his time. Writing steadily from 1863 to 1912, he is principally known for writing folklore, mythology, religion and collecting his series of twelve fairy books from 1889 to 1910. Andrew married Leonora Blanche Alleyne in 1875. He died from angina pectoris on July 20, 1912 in Banchory, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, at the age of 68 and is buried at St. Andrews.
