Product Description

by Ben Rhodes (Author)

The American King is a historical fiction novel written by Ben Rhodes and published in 1898. The story is set in the late 19th century and centers around the character of John Law, an American businessman who becomes the King of a small European country called Morania. The novel begins with Law traveling to Morania on business, where he becomes embroiled in a political crisis. The current King has died without an heir, and the country is on the brink of civil war as various factions vie for the throne. Law is approached by a group of Moranian nobles who offer him the crown in exchange for his help in resolving the crisis. Despite his initial reluctance, Law eventually accepts the offer and is crowned King of Morania. He sets about modernizing the country and introducing democratic reforms, much to the chagrin of the conservative nobility. Along the way, he falls in love with a Moranian princess and must navigate the treacherous waters of palace intrigue and political maneuvering to keep his throne and his love intact. The American King is a fast-paced and engaging novel that offers a fascinating glimpse into the politics and culture of Europe in the late 19th century. It is a story of love, ambition, and the struggle for power, and is sure to captivate readers who enjoy historical fiction and political dramas. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
