Product Description

by Tony Evans (Foreword by), Steve Redhead (Introduction by), Martin Cloake (Author)

The politics of football culture is starting to mean something again, and Martin Cloake - the best writer on the subject today - has sketched the bases of English football's culture wars. Beautifully written, this collection of his pieces in New Statesman, Thin White Line, The Football Pink and elsewhere are absolutely indispensable for anyone remotely interested in how the so-called beautiful game could become so dirty, sordid, greedy and plain stupid and yet still hold the attention of 'the people' who were invoked in all those homilies about the 'people's game'.

Author Biography

Martin Cloake is a writer and editor who lives and works in London, England. He has written and co-authored 11 previous books with cumulative sales of over 100,000. In 2011, 61: The Spurs Double, written with Adam Powley and Doug Cheeseman, was named Illustrated Sports Book of the Year by the National Sporting Club. Other titles include The Boys from White Hart Lane, The Glory Glory Nights: The Official History of Tottenham Hotspur in Europe, We Are Tottenham and the best-selling Spurs Miscellany series. Martin was also editorial consultant on The Tottenham Hotspur Opus. He writes and blogs regularly for a number of publications including the New Statesman, Thin White Line, The Football Pink, In Bed With Maradona and The Blizzard.
