It appears that this is a career where individuals will gamble with their personal health and well being in order to care for someone else. The risks are huge If you get injured you will likely be put out to pasture within five years. If you are lucky working in nursing homes, residential care facilities and hospitals will last up to five years. Injuries on the job can take you out of commission on the first day. I am currently not working as a certified nurse assistant after eight years of service. There are too many risks that could include permanent and total disability. What makes it worse is that the workers are not adequately protected. Staffing is low, pay is minimal and risk of injury are extremely high. Unions, lawyers and workers compensation laws are weak. Recovery is questionable if you get hurt and then how do you support yourself and family?
