Navy Seabee Construction Battalion Detachment 1058 (CBD-1058) was formed in 1944 to explore for oil in Alaska's North Slope. Many of its members were chosen for their extensive oil field experience. This book includes the CBD 1058 Cruise Book (year book) and additional WW II history. -The Eskimos saw tents and ruefully predicted that one half of the Seabees would freeze before the winter was gone. -Another old Eskimo] Native said, "the big Seabee would bury the little ones, and then the Eskimos would bury the big Seabee." -It's all here-the war effort in Alaska including: Seabee base construction, Alaskan Scouts, Eskimos, Wien Airlines, Charlie Brower, (King of the Arctic), "Rusty" Heurlin (Alaskan Artist); the battles against the Japanese and construction of the Alcan Highway.
