These professionals were motivated by faith to introduce practical social reforms and build up China's civil society. They modeled and promoted virtues essential to social progress during the "golden age" of Chinese Protestantism. Author Biography
Carol Lee Hamrin, a consultant and senior associate with Global China Center in Virginia, is the author of God and Caesar in China and Decision Making in Deng's China, as well as many book chapters and journal articles.
Stacey Bieler, a research associate with Global China Center, is the author of "Patriots" or "Traitors" A History of American-Educated Chinese Students. She is active in Community Volunteers for International Programs at Michigan State University.
