Product Description

by Henry Skinner-Larsen (Author)

Amos 8:11 says, "Behold, the days are coming," declares the Lord God, "when I will send a famine on the land not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord." Professional surveys tell us that as few as one out of ten professing Christians in America have read the Bible. Can someone say he believes what the Bible says if he hasn't read it? Just as important, can we fulfill the Great Commission, making disciples and teaching them to observe all our Lord has commanded if we don't know what those commands are? "Point to Reading the Bible" is about relationships. Our faith is about our relationship with the Lord. Through the simple act of reading God's word with another, we build meaningful fellowship while assisting them in developing a relationship with the Bible. The disciple demonstrates obedience by reading and meditating on the Word. The disciple fulfills the Great Commission while increasing his own Bible knowledge. Unlike other books which explain WHY we should read the Bible, "PTR the Bible" starts from that premise and shows a very simple and enjoyable way to encourage the habit of Bible reading. The answer is found in true, one-to-one discipleship. Let us follow the message of the Bible and lovingly share our own love of Bible reading with another, thereby fulfilling the Great Commission.

Author Biography

The first time I read the Bible, I was excited to share what I was learning with others. I was surprised, though, to learn how many church members had not read it. Most admitted a sense of guilt, wishing they could but, for various reasons, feeling unable to read the book they claim to love. While researching for my first book, "Point to Reading", I came to understand what causes two out of three kids to give up on reading in their first couple years in school. I realized that the very same reasons why children lose their love of books are what stop so many Christians from reading the Bible. My love of reading and joy of reading the Bible encouraged me to write this book. Following the command of our Lord found in the Great Commission, we can bless another by sharing our own love of His Word in a way which brings understanding while building a life-long habit of spending time daily with Him. Now we can all go and make disciples while building fellowship.
