Product Description

by Mike Allegra (Author), Jenn Harney (Illustrator)

Pirate & Penguin are yearnin' to set sail, but when "All Hands" is called Yo-Ho becomes Yo-Ho-Oh-Noooo! With the wind in their sails, their ship needs a crew of more than two.

Spying a packed port, Pirate & Penguin are sure they'll be gettin' a crew in two shakes of a first mate's booty bottom. But when their small but mighty man-of-war fails to make waves in a sea of larger vessels, they resolve to renovate.

It turns out Penguin has quite the penchant for the arrrrts, and soon they've got the funnest flagship on the Seven Seas, complete with a slide, a swing, and a cannon that shoots bubbles. But instead of new recruits itchin to join, the new improvements just get laughs, and though pirate isn't bothered by yellow-bellied landlubbers insulting his ship, he'll accept absolutely NO insulting of his fine, feathered Ground Parrot!

Disappointed but determined, Pirate & Penguin set off once again. Only then do they realize that their unconventional upgrades might not have attracted four pirate-y pairs of strong arrrrrrrms, but they did call to an eight-legged creature who just might suit their crew even better.

Step right up, seadogs and scallywags, for this wacky, colorful adventure ready to remind readers that being unapologetically you is the best way to find your crew.

Author Biography

Mike Allegra knew not long after penning Pirate & Penguin that the pair's hilarious high-seas hijinks couldn't be contained to a single book, and that future adventures would call for more crew members. He would have joined the crew himself except, well, books and water don't exactly mix. He's written a number of other books for children, including Sleepy Happy Capy Cuddles (Page Street Kids) and Scampers Thinks Like a Scientist (Sourcebooks). He also works as an editor and a creative writing teacher. Visit his website at www.mikeallegra.com and say, "Ahoy!"

Jenn Harney was overjoyed to illustrate another antic-filled adventure featuring pirates and penguins--a perfect pairing that she considers long overdue! She's illustrated many other children's books, including Hornswoggled! (Page Street Kids), and even authored a couple as well. She lives in Ohio with her family and their corgi named Steve.
