Product Description

by Bárbaro Martínez-Ruiz (Editor in Chief)

The Orbis Africa Journal is a new publishing platform that aims to foster discussion about the African world and its diaspora. Starting with rock art on the African continent over thirty thousand years ago, our journey extends to creating graphic writing systems in the modern era in the Americas. By recognizing Africa as a central subject across disciplines, we can better understand its foundations and appreciate the unique ways in which the African intellectual legacy intersects with our world. We believe that to understand history, philosophy, art history, archaeology, anthropology, visual culture, and literature from both the recent and distant past, it is essential to study them in relation to Africa. As a platform, the journal will evaluate African contributions and analyze the perspectives of African knowledge on contemporary issues. By doing so, it becomes feasible to use this knowledge to improve our ability to ask better questions about individuals and society.
