Third in a Series of On the farm with Harry, a "Read a Book to a Kid" book . -- It's a chapter book for parent/grandparent, or other adult to READ TO a child. In other words, you don't buy the book and give it to a child to read. YOU READ IT TO HIM or HER (or them).
The 17 chapters are short, Each one is followed by a brief series of questions -- to encourage interaction between adult and child, to determine retention, and to cultivate the joy of reading. (As one appendix, I have included a glossary -- words of reference that Dad might turn to, should the child wish to pursue their meanings.)
Harry lives on a small family farm. He just turned five. The family is a Christian family; moral principles are taught and explained. Harry even questions some of them, but with a conversation with Dad or Mom, he sees the logic. Mom is planning on beginning a Christian home school with a few neighborhood children, but her pregnancy comes first.
Harry has chores, and fun times. In this episode, Harry becomes a big brother, he and other neighborhood children help build a tree-house, learning a few principles of building, safety, and caring for tools. In other chapters he learns how to take on "impossible tasks, how taking care of car maintenance is important, the importance of agreements, that promises should be kept, and other lessons.
After chores and supper are over, Dad reads to the family from a book. As in book 2, I have included some random excerpts from Wind in the Willows, written by Kenneth Grahame, 1908. Harry enjoys the story, and looks forward to more.
The book is a page-turner from beginning to end -- with neighbors helping neighbors, home schooling, keeping promises, meeting new people, etc. There are no flying wizards or fairies, no magic portals or wands -- simply a realistic story geared to the younger set. 122 pages overall with 30+ illustrations. Written for the entire family to enjoy.
