Product Description

by Amy Hoskin Hill (Author), Dennis Mayfield (Adapted by)

Levinia Perry arrived in Mountain City, Colorado Territory, from Cornwall, England, on September 21, 1863. The day she stepped off the stagecoach, she married her sweetheart Hugh Champion, who had waited two long years for that day. This book, authored by her granddaughter Amy Hoskin Hill and adapted by the author's grandson Dennis Mayfield tells the true story of Levinia's struggles in the mining town that became Central City, Colorado. Life was not easy for this couple. Four of their ten children had died by the time Hugh passed away at an early age. Two more had died by the time Levinia passed away. They endured cycles of births, deaths, floods, fires, feast and famine as the town grew with the discovery of gold and cycled back to poverty for her and her family. Dennis Mayfield provides a foreword, telling how it came about that this story is finally published 27 years after the death of the author. It includes a brief description of the difficult life of this pioneer family. He then follows his grandmother's Epilogue with an Afterword that includes the disposition of many of Levinia's belongings, genealogy information and whether a prayer and promise made to her was fulfilled.
