Product Description

by Laura a. French-Hourcade (Author)

Come share the early memories of a tri-national American-French-Swiss boy growing up in the Swiss Alps. Nicolas' Mother is American and his Father is French, but he lives in Switzerland. As Nicolas is bilingual French and English, the text has a smattering of basic French words with an English translation enabling language acquisition of such words as: "Bonjour", "Au revoir", "A bient t". The story is based on true experiences of the author's family as they discovered Switzerland.

Author Biography

Laura French-Hourcade, American and Swiss, has been living in the Swiss Alpine village of Leysin since 1980 with her husband and three children and now with their three grandaughters as well. With a Master's in French, Laura has been teaching this beautiful language for nearly 40 years. In Nicowlas, she wanted to share the old-fashioned childhood her children were able to have in the Swiss Alps: their freedom to move about the village and to play outside to their heart's content, in short, a picture book life. Parts of the text are bilingual so that readers may pick up a smattering of French by the end of the story.
