Product Description

Use this traditional, round, handwoven basket to decorate, serve, or gift! Each basket was handmade by women artisans trained by the Chimpanzee Trust in order to bring secure economic development to this remote island in Uganda. Groups of women are trained to make crafts out of local materials. The sales from these crafts, including baskets, are marketed and sold at Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary.

Surrounded by the peaceful waters of Lake Victoria, Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary is home to orphaned chimps rescued from throughout Uganda. This organization is one of the only sources of employment for the women of Ngamba. These beautiful baskets help the women who are basically cut off from many resources with a sustainable job, which in turn helps support the community.

  • Made of sisal threads from palm tree leaves & millet plant stems
  • Approximately 2" H x 12.5" diameter (5.1 x 31.8 cm)
  • Handmade in & fairly traded from Uganda

Due to the hand-crafted nature, each item is unique and colors may vary.
