The ideas in the 2 volumes of Necklines, Collars & Cuffs work with any sweater pattern. The basic instructions are how to add a collar instead of a plain neck band to your sweater, jacket or coat. They work using any knitting machine. Fine gauge, standard, mid-gauge or bulky. Instead of plain cuffs - add pin tucks or French cuffs. The same goes for bands on cardigans or tab fronts. There are examples you can work though before starting your garment. This will give you confidence when completing your garment with the new details. Many of the ideas are knitted on the main bed while others require a ribber. A couple of the ribbed ideas can be knitted using the garter carriage. However - using racking and pin tucks will require a ribber. Hopefully this collection will inspire you to alter a few and come up with new ones on your own.

Charlene Shafer is a perfect example of a hobby knitter turned pro, who can now boast of a business 40 + years old. Location, location, location. Charlene Shafer's 'Knit Knack Shop' isn't exactly at the crossroads of the country, but when she first opened her shop in 1978, today's business professionals were still in diapers, and she hadn't heard that opening a shop in the middle of a cornfield wasn't the best choice. Charlene started machine knitting in January of 1969. Teaching is a love and knitting is a passion. Charlene has authored over 200 books on anything from Crafty Ideas, Afghans, Baby Clothes, Holiday Items and many books of garments. Charlene's husband Harold and son Noel work with her at the shop. Her daughters Tricia, Cheri & Missy round out the family and the nine grandchildren are the icing on the cake. Charlene is working on new books and loves to teach at workshops and seminars. Knitting, biking, cooking, reading and of course playing with the grandkids are her favorite pass times.
