What unifies this collection of poems is even more complex than a number of themes that, alone, unify so many other poetry books, but are each only shared with a few of his poems or parts thereof, but it is the meaning that he searches for in his poems which are very mindful in describing his experiences with these several themes. It is more than a unifying theme; it is what has unified to become a life. His life. While there is a valuable lesson to be learned here, by this collection of poetry in its entirety, I'm not sure many of us have learned enough of this lesson to fully relate. But since there are a few poems that share a theme for a number of themes, most everyone can relate to maybe a few of these themes. Perhaps these poems being meaningful to others in that way, is where Daniel may find the most meaning in his life, and is the reason for this book-this long-overdue first book.
