Even though his formal education was limited because of work responsibilities on the farm, he owns five patents in the Washington, D.C., Patent Office. Not bad for a seventh-grade education. Along with the goal of making life's daily chores easier for many people, his dad so desperately wanted to see at least one of his inventions pay off in order to leave his children a financial inheritance. The character, humor, and common sense of his father is revealed in the stories of the various inventions.
