Michael D. Belis served as a rifleman in the United States Army's 1st Battalion 22nd Infantry Regiment of the 4th Infantry Division in the Republic of Vietnam in 1970 and is a proud holder of the Combat Infantryman Badge. He is a member of the 4th Infantry Division Association and the 22nd Infantry Regiment Society.

From 1999-2014, he was a historical advisor to 1st Battalion 22nd Infantry while the Battalion was part of the 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized) based out of Fort Hood, Texas and then Fort Carson, Colorado, and contributed an extensive number of historical artifacts of the Regiment to the Battalion's Regimental Room during those years. Since 2014, he has been working in a historical advisory capacity to 2nd Battalion 22nd Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division stationed at Fort Drum, New York, and has also contributed numerous artifacts of the Regiment to that Battalion for their displays at their home base.
