He played hard, studied little, and was already bored with life. He was ignorant of demands and absent of purpose. She worked hard and never played. She felt nothing but demands. It was the only industry besides fishing. The machines were old and worn. Newer mills were faster and required fewer attendants. Profit margins were tight and competition has no mercy.
