Product Description

by Michael Guenzburger (Artist)

In Contact, we meet eleven different wild animals, from a fox to a beaver and even a polar bear. The minimal images are literally traces and testimony of bodily contact with the animals. Swiss artist/photographer Michael Gnzburger (b. 1974) and printer Thomi Wolfensberger developed a method of capturing an animals impression through lithographic printing. The lithographs make single hairs on the animals body visible while creating an ethereal tracing of its existence in black and white. Contact comes from Gnzburgers long exploration of line drawing applied to his photographic work. The result is fascinating, elegant, and mysterious. Along with the images, noted Swiss novelist Lukas Brfuss has created an accompanying work of fiction that takes the reader on an expedition through the northern woods to the frozen wilderness of an island in the north Sea, exploring the history, geography, and zoology of the surroundings. The combination is an excellent mix of elegant materials, unique content, and engaging text.
