Although there is no need to know sacramental or liturgical theology in order to be a good Christian, a solid understanding of the sacraments helps us both spiritually and humanly. For the sacraments are loved more and deeper by whom they are known than not known. This informed love prepares us to fulfill the main mission of the Church: to evangelize--to communicate that great gift of faith received from God in Jesus Christ. Understanding the sacraments can bring us a lot: from a deeper understanding of how Jesus Christ comes to us through the sacraments, to the discovery that the sacraments can illuminate our hearts and strengthen them in the face of everyday challenges.
